The concept. Of AUST. POWERTOOL REGISTER™® first came about in 2000-2001 after a number of break ins on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. Of builders, plumbers, electricians and other trades peoples vehicles. And the theft. Mostly of, expensive electric power tools. Which had been mentioned in my local daily (Manly Daily) newspaper.
Upon further investigation it was found that these break ins weren't just localized to the Northern Beaches, but were happening across the whole of Metropolitan Sydney. And for that fact, it was assumed that it was probably happening across most of Australia.
Being a builder myself, I knew how devastating it would be. Not just because of the cost of replacing any stolen equipment, but also the cost of DOWN TIME associated with taking time away from which ever project you happened to be working on at the time, to go and make a report at your local Police Station. And to make a claim with your Insurers. And then. To go out and purchase new power tools, to replace those that had been stolen.
My research to establish AUST. POWERTOOL REGISTER™® involved speaking to my local Police Liaison Officer. And then interviewing, as many of the numerous and various trades people that I knew.
From this research I was surprised to find that not many of the trades people that I spoke to. Had any idea of the most IMPORTANT INFORMATION that would be required to make a full report of the theft of their equipment.
When asked, most of the trades people that I spoke too, could readily give me the MAKE and number of pieces of equipment that they owned. However NOT ONE could tell me the IMPORTANT INFORMATION that the Police and their Insurers would inevitably ask for. (Some DON'T even have Tool Insurance) That IMPORTANT INFORMATION happened to be. The MODEL and SERIAL No's of their various pieces of electrical equipment. Without these MODEL and SERIAL No's. it would be next to impossible to be able to identify and claim any equipment that may have been recovered by the Police or found at any Pawn Brokers or Second Hand Tool / Goods Dealers.
And this is what led to the idea to setup AUST. POWERTOOL REGISTER™® a register for trades people to be able to provide all of the relative IMPORTANT INFORMATION regarding MAKE, MODEL & SERIAL No's and then register those details on the AUST.POWERTOOL REGISTER™® SECURE DATABASE.
